The legal document that transfers the seller’s interest in a property to the buyer.
A deed of assignment records that the seller (assignor) transfers their whole remaining interest in the land to the buyer (assignee) for the stated price. It describes the property, recites the seller’s title and is signed by both parties before witnesses.
The deed only takes full effect once Minister’s Consent is obtained, Stamp duty is paid and the deed is registered at the land registry.
What to check
- Have your own lawyer draft or review the deed.
- Check that the property description matches the Title Deed Plan and the title document.
- Keep the registered original somewhere safe; it is the link in your chain of title.
